FAQs

So....what is this 'art form'?

The art of Chain Maille aka Chainmaille (weaving metal) is linking small metal rings together one by one to create a weave pattern. The result is a chain or mesh in a weave that may be simple or very intricate. Throughout history, chain maille has been called several different names: meshmail, ringmail, linkmail, or just mail. The word chainmaille is derived from the French word “maille”, which means knitting, and the Latin word “macula”, meaning mesh of a net. Chain Maille was historically used as armour from the Roman era in both eastern and western cultures until the late middle ages. Chain Maille is delicate and elegant, yet strong and durable.

Chain Maille jewelry design has no boundary with endless options and possibilities.

Danna Laine Design creates bold unique rockin’ styles linking one ring at a time!

I love my Danna Laine Design! However, it’s the wrong size. How can I get it resized?

We will be happy to resize your handcrafted design for you. To discuss resizing and to submit a resize order, please contact us at hello@dannalainedesign.com.

The standard length for bracelets is 7 inches and for necklaces it is 18 inches.  Each design will have an extension that is an inch in length. Therefore, when choosing a length of 7 inches, it can extend to 8 inches, etc.

We handcraft most of our earring designs of anodized aluminum for the amazing 'light as a feather' feel. Some woven chain patterns are laid on and attached to leather or faux leather. You can spot clean the leather or faux leather with a damp cloth. The chain portion can be laid separate from the faux/leather and a soft toothbrush with dish soap and warm water can be used.
